Course Work
These programs are based on Utah State Board of Education approved coursework and practica at the University of Utah and Utah State University. Many courses are available in a distance education format for eligible students. A comprehensive course of study that addresses the critical issues in early intervention/preschool (Birth-5) and elementary/secondary (K-12) education for children and youth with sensory impairments and their families is provided. Faculty from both universities work collaboratively to deliver an integrated program of study and practica experiences to ensure a cohesive and multi-disciplinary approach.
Field Experience
Practicum training sites are located inprograms around the state where children and youthwith vision and/or hearing impairments are currently being served. These sites include early intervention programs, the Utah Schools for the Deaf and the Blind, and local school district pre-schools and K-12 classrooms. Supervision of university students in these sites is provided by the university supervisors. These individuals have considerable experience in clinical supervision and consultation and provide ongoing support to students in this program.
