Project TSDBOT:  Preparing Special Education Teachers with Endorsement in Deafblindness and Occupational Therapists Through an Interdisciplinary Program to Improve Services

 
Personnel Preparation Grant

The purpose of this 5-year project is to improve the quality and increase the number of highly qualified personnel prepared to serve school-age learners with deafblindness through interdisciplinary teams. The project will support and prepare 28 master's level scholars at the University of Utah (U of U), 16 special education teachers with an endorsement in deafblindess (TSDBs) and 12 occupational therapists (OTs), who by the end of their respective programs have demonstrated the national professional competencies in their discipline and additional project competencies related to interdisciplinary teaming. Emphasis will be placed on preparing these professionals to provide specialized services to the diverse population of students with deafblindness and their families.

For individuals interested in the occupational therapy program

The grant will provide scholarships to students who have been accepted to BOTH the Masters in Occupational Therapy program and Project TSDBOT. The total scholarship amount will be $20,500 ($5,125 across 4 semesters), distributed during the 1st and 2nd year of the program

ELIGIBLE APPLICANTS

Individuals who are interested in becoming an occupational therapist with advanced training in serving Deafblind individuals. Scholars must be applicants for the Masters in Occupational Therapy program.

To participate in this project, scholars will need to be accepted into the Masters in Occupational Therapy program and accepted into the project.

Scholarship Recipients

The number of available scholarships is limited. Notifications will be made to applicants by email the middle of March 2021.

APPLICATION for OT students interested in Project TSDBOT.

FOR INDIVIDUALS INTERESTED IN THE deafblind PROGRAM

The grant will provide scholarships to students who have been accepted to BOTH the Masters in Special Education program (for the Deafblind endorsement) and Project TSDBOT. The total scholarship amount will be $25,625, distributed across 4 semesters. Scholars may be eligible for a 50% tuition benefit (waiver) in some semesters.

ELIGIBLE APPLICANTS

Special Education teachers who are interested in obtaining a master's degree and endorsement in deafblindness. Applicants must already have or be working toward obtaining their teaching license as a special education teacher (e.g., TVI, DHH, early childhood, severe, general SPED). To participate in this project, scholars will need to be accepted into the special education master's program and accepted into the project.


APPLICATION DEADLINE

Accepting applications now through October 1, 2021 at 4:00 pm (MST) for a Spring 2022 start date.

SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS

The number of available scholarships is limited. Applications will be considered as they are received until all awards have been made. Applicants will be notified by email with a decision within 4 weeks from the time their application was submitted.
