Welcome to the Department of Special Education at the University of Utah. It is our mission to improve the quality of life for people with disabilities and their families by developing and disseminating essential skills, knowledge, and values through research, teaching, and service.

If you are an admitted student, we are pleased that you have chosen the University of Utah to receive your professional preparation. Our faculty and staff recognize the challenges and responsibilities you face in the commitment to continue your education. We know that you must carefully balance duties and activities at home, work, and here at the University. I believe that you will find the faculty extremely understanding and supportive, while simultaneously maintaining high expectations that will not compromise the quality of your learning experience. As a part of our commitment to you, we have prepared a comprehensive student handbook that is located under the resources tab of our website. I encourage you to read it carefully and refer to it frequently throughout your program. It contains a wealth of information on topics such as program requirements, professional ethics, student leadership, and much more.
