U-FIT

Family activities

*COVID-19 Update*

U-FIT in Fall 2020 and Spring 2021 will be offered in a modified format to accommodate health and safety concerns. For the Fall 2020 semester, U-FIT programming will include access to an online library of exercise video clips sent directly to parents and participants. In addition to at-home activities, U-FIT is providing live educational information sessions from professionals in special education and related fields. During these sessions, participants and families will receive beneficial resources, ask questions, and connect with the U-FIT community. Then for the Spring 2021 semester, U-FIT will consist of interactive programming where participants will be paired with university student volunteers to work on enrichment activities (i.e motor skills, social interaction, arts and crafts, dance, etc.) via direct Zoom video conferencing. Use the contact information below to request more information and be notified about future registration.

*There will be no tuition cost for U-FIT participants this academic year*

What is U-FIT?

U-FIT is a family-centered program designed for children and youth with special needs. We provide physical activities in a fun, noncompetitive atmosphere that will help individuals reach their goals! By working along side skilled volunteers, the program is designed to build friendships, increase self-esteem, improve motor skills and levels of physical fitness while ultimately having fun in a nurturing environment. The key to the success of the U-FIT Program is through family involvement of those who participate. U-FIT tries to meet the goals and needs of the family that is as diverse as the participant.

Who can participate in U-FIT?

Children involved in the program range in age from 3 to 18 years and have a wide variety of disabilities. Participants receive individual instruction from trained volunteers and students at the University of Utah. Siblings are also encouraged to participate and have the option of having their own volunteer for personal attention during sessions or participating in group activities.

Where and when are U-FIT activities held?

The activities are held on Friday evenings from 6pm to 8pm in HPER complex and in the HPER swimming pool. You can park in the lot just north of the HPER complex. The program follows the University academic calendar but does not meet in the summer.
