Graduate Non-Degree Seeking Options in Special Education
SP ED Endorsement/Licensure Only
Students who have previously been awarded a degree (minimum level: bachelor) are eligible to take classes in our endorsement/initial or second licensure only programs. Students in these programs are not seeking a degree from the University of Utah; instead, students will complete only the requirements needed for a teaching license in an area of special education.
Programs are offered in the following areas: Mild/Moderate Disabilities, Severe Disabilities, Preschool Special Education/Early Intervention, Visual Impairments, Deaf and Hard of Hearing and Deafblind.
BCBA Program
Students who have previously been awarded a degree (minimum level: master) are eligible to take classes in our BCBA program. Please be aware that a student's Master degree must be from one of three areas: Education, Psychology or Behavior Analysis.
Students in this program are not seeking a degree from the University of Utah; instead, students will complete only the requirements needed to sit for the national BCBA certification exam.
Endorsement/Licensure Only Students Admissions Process
All Endorsement/Licensure-only Special Education students must be first admitted to the University of Utah as a “Non-Matriculated” student (a student who has permission to register for classes but is not working toward a degree).

Visit the Office of Admissions website to view application deadlines, apply for admission to the University of Utah as a “Non-Matriculated” student and pay the application fee. Send your official transcript(s) to the Office of Admissions electronically or by mail.

Additional Information
Once permission to register as a "Non-Matriculated" student has been granted, you may continue to take classes each term as long as you stay in good standing with the University. If you do not register in at least one credit course each semester (not including the summer semester), you will be required to reapply before you can begin taking classes again.
Credit earned as a "Non-Matriculated" student will only be applied toward a degree after you become a "Matriculated" (degree-seeking) student. A maximum of 9 hours of graduate credit from the University of Utah may be considered toward an advanced degree (M.Ed. or M.S.).
Each non-matriculated student will be classified as a resident or nonresident for tuition purposes. Non-Matriculated students are NOT eligible for Financial Aid or Scholarships, thus it is encouraged to apply for private student loan options if aid is needed to support your studies.
