Project ISPAAV

Interdisciplinary Special Education Personnel: Training in Adapted Physical Education, Applied Behavior Analysis and Visual Impairment

 

Project ISPAAV Aim

Increase the quality and quantity of APE, TSVI, and ABA personnel who will provide high-quality special education services to children with high intensity needs, including those who are Blind and have Low Vision (5 to 21 years old) in a variety of educational settings, including in person and distance learning models.

ISPAAV Scholar Commitments

  • Complete core and specialization coursework for their master’s degree program and all additional coursework (including summer) required by Project ISPAAV.
  • Participate in Project ISPAAV enrichment activities, including bi-weekly seminars, and summer professional development workshops and a week-long internship.
  • Maintain minimum of 3.0 cumulative GPA.
  • Sign an OSEP Pre-Scholarship Agreement form.
  • Uphold professional behaviors and ethical standards

 

Applicant Elgibility

To receive full consideration for Grant Support through Project ISPAAV, prospective scholars will:

  • Secure admission to either the M.Ed. in Visual Impairments (K-12), M.Ed. or M.S. in Adapted Physical Education, or M.S. in Applied Behavior Analysis programs.
  • Document 3.0 cumulative undergraduate GPA or provide context for GPAs below 3.0 and grades below C in core content courses.
  • Complete additional application materials listed below, including a detailed personal statement that demonstrates their commitment to serving as a teacher of students with visual impairments, a school-based behavior analyst, or an adapted physical education teacher, as appropriate for their program focus.
  • APE program, only: Scholars must currently hold or have an intention to pursue (a) a secondary educator license with a physical education endorsement, or (b) a special education teacher licensure with an endorsement in APE.

 

Application Deadline

The deadline for priority scholarship application review is 5:00 pm on March 1st. Interested applicants must apply no later than May 1st to be considered for the upcoming cohort. There are 10 scholarships available per year (2 ABA, 4 APE, 4 VI), for the following academic years 2026-27, 2027-28, 2028-29.
