Distance Education/Interactive Video Conferencing Policy

Students admitted to a Department of Special Education Bachelor degree, Master degree, or Endorsement only program with (or without) teacher licensure must attend classes on campus (or the identified satellite campus) unless they live more than 50 miles from campus (or from the
identified satellite campus). This policy applies regardless of whether other students in the course will be participating via Distance Education/Interactive Video Conferencing.

Approved exceptions include: 1) students participating in an identified cohort where courses are scheduled to be held at a specified location within the school district; 2) students receiving grant funding for a clearly identified distance education program or 3) students who, for reasons approved through the Center for Disability and Access, are unable to attend classes on campus.

Students will be placed in a UEN site. Exceptions must be approved by program coordinators after consultation and coordination with all instructors.

Students who have a temporary medical concern that may impact their ability to attend classes on campus must work with the Center for Disability and Access for the determination of appropriate, temporary accommodations.

If a student is currently employed by a district/entity that takes them more than 50 miles from campus s/he is encouraged to work with their employer to assure that they are able to arrive to classes on time.

Please Note: In order to meet required competencies, there may be some instances in which students (including distance students) will need to attend a class or class session(s) on the University of Utah campus. Please contact your advisor or program area coordinator for additional information.
