Clinical Supervision Policy

Department of Special Education
Policy on Distance Limits for Providing Clinical Supervision to Students Admitted to a Teacher Licensure Program
Adopted 10/1/2004
Amended 3/19/18

Revised Policy

Individuals admitted to a Department of Special Education Bachelor or Master degree program with teacher licensure must complete their field study and student teaching requirements in an approved school located no more than 50 miles from the University of Utah. Only individuals whose approved placement is within the 50 mile limit will be provided with registration index numbers for the field study or student teaching.

If a student is employed or is planning to accept a job offer during either field study/practicum or student teaching, this job placement must receive prior approval as an appropriate field or student teaching site by program faculty. In addition, the placement must meet the 50 mile limit mentioned above (i.e., the job site must be within 50 miles of the main University campus). Only individuals whose approved job placement is within the 50 mile limit will be provided with registration index numbers for field study or student teaching.

Exceptions to the above policies will only be granted after review by the program area coordinator and the student's advisor.
